It isn't any cheaper, unfortunately. So, I don't think that'll fly as a good excuse.

But over time I've found that if you don't want to go, you can just say you're busy that day. It'll work. As long as you are still outgoing and work hard, I don't think it's really that big a deal.db214https://www.blogger.com/profile/15106714784605631697noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2519158191560630244.post-49121064412358801792012-08-18T11:24:59.775+09:002012-08-18T11:24:59.775+09:00My question is the following:

However, how would I tell them, "I would love to go! But I don't drink...?"NathalieGhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00356301192557127398noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2519158191560630244.post-26666496551885507632012-02-28T09:08:43.396+09:002012-02-28T09:08:43.396+09:00I say no to most enkais.

Others are less important, but if it's your first year you may want to consider attending most of them anyway. No special excuses are needed unless it's one of the big ones - in which case honesty is the best policy.db214https://www.blogger.com/profile/15106714784605631697noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2519158191560630244.post-10010422964713265312012-02-26T23:35:22.883+09:002012-02-26T23:35:22.883+09:00this is hilarious. it sounds like a good time. 2 q...this is hilarious. it sounds like a good time. 2 questions:
1. can't u just budget for maybe 2 or 3 for the term or smtng, then just pic the most fun, or bigger enkais to attend?

2. what is the most polite way to turn down the invitation?boutuxnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2519158191560630244.post-83677479629094535482011-09-20T08:50:01.402+09:002011-09-20T08:50:01.402+09:00Well, that's quite a disaster! I think you might be able to live it down!Domhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02389198212394380898noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2519158191560630244.post-29928491222423259302011-09-19T18:12:36.048+09:002011-09-19T18:12:36.048+09:00I love your description of the enkai! The problem is when I got home I was possibly the most drunk I have ever been. My memory isn't serving me too well, but anyway...when I got into my house I realised I was followed by a male teacher, 21 like me. I remember vomiting in the toilet and falling on him quite a few times...all I heard from him over and over was 'oh my God, you should got to bed.' Eventually I did, and he left. I'm really worried about going back to that school now, it's going to be embarrassing! I've heard before that if a Japanese teacher were to do embarrassing things, it will never be spoken of again, but if a gaijin does it, you'll never live it down. I'm pretty worried!Lorellehttp://www.lollyissmiling.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2519158191560630244.post-32842478042759179572011-01-26T09:12:25.465+09:002011-01-26T09:12:25.465+09:00Thanks Laura.

The school might change, the teachers might change, but it's all the same.
The teacher you have sat next to for 6 months without ever speaking to will drink one beer and reveal that he speaks perfect English and lived in your hometown for a year.
The principle will see it as a challenge to see if you can live up to the gaijin challenge and drink more than him (yes, even I, a girl, can) and you will walk home whilst it's still light and realise it is only Wednesday and you have to work in the morning...I love enkais!Laurahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02466717531348858509noreply@blogger.com
