Applying Online for the JLPT

This year is the first year of online JLPT applications for Japanese residents. So, instead of our usual entry about paper applications, here's how to do it online.

Japan is notoriously behind the times in terms of the internet, so it's pretty hard to find the right page. First you need to create an online MyJLPT ID here.

Then, go to this page to log in. You can pay by card, pay-easy or through a convenience store.

The page says applications open from April 2nd 2012. However, I'm writing this on the 4th and it isn't working yet. Give it a couple of days. The deadline for the July test is May 2nd.

Test Dates
  • First test: Sunday, July 1, 2012
  • Second test: Sunday, December 2, 2012

Further details can be found on the main JLPT page. It seems you will also be able to view your current and past results online. Let's hope that means they come a little sooner after taking the test now!

Prefer paper applications? Here's the guide for that.
